He was born April 30, 1933, to William Walter and Sarah Cecilia Wilkinson Amos in Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada. His wife of 54 years, Jean M. Amos, survives.
He worked at R.R. Donnelly Printing for 38 years where he started as a machinist in Chicago. He was later promoted to supervisor and then manager in the maintenance department. After he received a promotion to department manager, he was transferred to Dwight, Ill., Warsaw and Mattoon, Ill. In October 1989, he moved to Corinth as the assistant plant manager at Krieger-Regnet, retiring in 1994. He was later called back as a consultant for National Geographic for an additional four years.
He was an avid reader and book collector, loved to watch and play hockey, was an accredited referee at Notre Dame along with several other rinks in Illinois/Indiana area on the collegiate level and an active member of St. James Catholic Church for 21 years.
Also surviving are a son, Gary (and spouse Teri) Amos, Okalona, Pa.; three daughters: Janine Black of Fort Wayne; Beverly (and spouse Dave) Hess, Effingham, Ill.; and Beverly (and spouse Terry) Lawrence, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; three stepsons, Nathan May of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Jeffrey (and spouse Julie) May and Michael May, all of Warsaw; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Rich Smith officiating.
The Wake will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
McPeters Funeral Directors, Corinth, Miss., is in charge of arrangements.
