Breakfast Optimist City Of Lakes Car Show May 21 In Downtown Warsaw

Many activities are planned for the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club second annual City Of Lakes Cruise-In.
The event is May 21 from 1 to 7 p.m. in downtown Warsaw. All proceeds go to benefit the youth of Kosciusko County.
During the event, DJ Chris Cage will spin  records, and registration of cars, trucks, motorcycles and classic boats will be at 1 p.m.
Michiana Model A Club will showcase vehicles from the 1930s.
The backyard barbecue battle will begin at 2 p.m. to determine which local chef wins the bragging rights for Kosciusko County’s best chef.
All local barbecue experts can enter and compete for the grand prize. Dan Ousley, owner of Outdoor Living Center, and Grace College basketball coach Jim Kessler, will organize the event. Contact them at 574-269-4279 or 574-372-5100, Ext. 6265, for more details.
A corn hole tournament with a cash prize will be for the winners.
Doug Ogle and the Warsaw boys basketball team will host the event. The entry fee is two person teams for $20.
Judging of the cars, trucks, motorcycles and classic boats will take place.
The Chain O’ Lakes men’s chorus will perform at 4 p.m.
An escorted cruise through Central Park to Winona Lake and back to downtown Warsaw will be at 5 p.m.
A presentation of the top 10 of each class awards will be at 7 p.m.
The “Shigs in Pit” barbecue team, sponsored by Mad Anthony’s Brewing Company, will sell barbecue items.
Altrusa members will provide a selection of foods and desserts.
WRSW-FM and Willie 103.5 will each broadcast for two hours with their live remote.
The Optimist Club will encourage attendees to work with downtown merchants to bring them into downtown businesses. A prize drawing will be conducted for those car show participants that visit downtown merchants.
Visitors to the event will be able to vote for the People’s Choice Award.
At 4 p.m. the judging of the cars, trucks and motorcycles will take place.
In addition, all entrants in the show will receive a dash plaque to acknowledge their participation and support of the Optimist Club’s “Friend of Youth” mission.
Also at 4 p.m., the 30-voice “Chain O Lakes Barbershop Chorus” will present a concert underneath the shade of the trees on the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn.
Plans have been made for one or two cars from the Studebaker Museum in South Bend to be in the show along with at least one car from the Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Museum from Shipshewana.
There will be an escorted cruise leaving downtown Warsaw at 5 p.m. for vehicles entered into the show. The route will travel down Center Street to Argonne Road and then enter the Village of Winona for a tour down Park Avenue and a return to downtown Warsaw.
The Rolling Stonebaker’s 1949 Studebaker fire truck will be on hand to offer fresh wood fired pizza from their fire truck that has been converted to a wood-fired pizza oven.
Martin Becker and the Lakes Area Concert Band will set up on the courthouse lawn at 6:15 p.m. to play a 45-minute concert as a prelude of the presentation of the Top 10 of each Class Awards.
Throughout the day, medical personnel from Kosciusko Community Hospital will offer basic free health screenings for all attending the show.
The Super High Mileage Team for Warsaw Community High School will be on display.[[In-content Ad]]Registration fee for each vehicle in the show is $12. All proceeds benefit the 60 youth programs sponsored by the 140-member Breakfast Optimist Club.

During Friday’s Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, it approved roads to be closed on May 21 for the event from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Street closures include Center from Lake Street to the alley east of Lake City Bank, Main Street from Lake Street to the alley west of Fire Station No. 1, Buffalo Street from Market Street to the alley north of Zimmer Hotel, and Indiana Street from Market Street to Main Street.
