Dale and the former Gloria Woods were married March 21, 1948, in the Wood’s family residence in Warsaw.
Dale and Gloria met in Warsaw as a result of tangled roller skates during an “advanced couples’ skate”. The conversation continues to this day about who is responsible for the tripping. They lived in South Bend until 1968 when they moved to Warsaw. Dale drove for Drewry's before he and Gloria took over running Woodies’ Rental on Winona Avenue, retiring in 1993.
For many years they have spent winters in Defuniak Springs, Fla. They have long been servants to their communities, donating their time with various organizations. Dale was the Teamsters Union Steward when working at Drewry's and chartered a Boy Scout troup in South Bend.
After moving to Warsaw, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge and he and Gloria were both actively involved with Cardinal Center. Dale served as a board member for 10 years, chairman of the board for four years and Gloria drove bus for the center for more than five years. They have both served as president of the Warsaw Squares dancing group and been very involved with the Lion’s Club, serving more than 35 years between the Warsaw and Leesburg clubs.
Their generous hearts can be seen when reflecting on the Warsaw tornado of 1975 after which Woodies’ Rental offered a free month of equipment rental to all those in need during tornado clean-up. They have long been associated with 4th of July celebrations, soup cookouts, fish frys and gatherings of all sorts.
They have four children: Jim Bradway, Greenfield; Ruth (and spouse Ken) Bond, Silver Lake; Charles (and spouse Janice) Bradway, Lakeland, Fla.; and the late Larry Bradway; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A celebration will be Saturday at the Conservatin Club at Little Chapman Lake, Warsaw, by invitation only.
Cards, photos and congratulations can be sent to the couple via Ruth Bond, 8310 S. CR 500W, Silver Lake, IN 46982.
