The bracelets will be sold through July 4, according to HOW Executive Director Pam Kennedy.
Proceeds from the bracelets will go toward raising funds to repair the Upson House roof that is leaking. Proceeds also will be donated to Lakeland Art Association and Winona Lake Senior Center, where volunteers made and packaged the bracelets.
The Upson House, Center Street, was established in 2000 by Housing Opportunities of Warsaw. It provides transitional housing for families in crisis. Upson House allows families to heal, accomplish educational goals, become employed, secure transportation, build a support system and increase resident's life skills. The duplex currently houses two families.
"The bracelets would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift because they are about nurturing families," Kennedy said.
The bracelets are made with Swarovski Crystal beads.
Each bracelet comes with a poem that describes the facets of a family's journey at the Upson House, and is symbolic of the compassion of the community that helps fund the Upson House and the volunteers.
There were 250 bracelets made, and the goal is to sell 500 bracelets, Kennedy said.
Volunteers said they were happy to package and make the bracelets.
"At the Senior Center, we try to do service-oriented projects and it is wonderful that we could help the local community," said Winona Lake Senior Center member Carol Forbes.
Winona Lake Senior Center director Holly Hummitch said the volunteers from the center were happy to package the bracelets.
"We are happy to serve the community and willing to do volunteer work," Hummitch said.
Lakeland Art Association treasurer Ceridwen Ruegner said volunteers enjoyed making the bracelets.
"The bracelets are going for a good cause, and the group had fun making them," Ruegner said.
Morgan Woods, who lives at Upson House with her two daughters, said she is happy the roof will be replaced.
"The bracelets are beautiful, and I am thankful they will be sold to help get our roof replaced," Woods said.
HOW Board President Tammy Keirn said HOW is thankful for the businesses who will sell the bracelets at their stores, and for the volunteers who made and packaged the bracelets.
"We appreciate the stores' support in selling the bracelets, and it is through volunteers and donors we are able to maintain the Upson House," Keirn said.
