The Warsaw Board of Works held a short meeting Friday and approved two amendments to the Jones & Henry Engineers engineering agreement in an amount not to exceed $1.1 million.

The work will be for the new wastewater treatment plant and collection project.

The board also approved a $10,000 grant application for additional financial assistance to the Kosciusko County Community Foundation Inc. for the Beyer Farm Trail portion of the Lake City Greenway.

The Lake City Greenway Steering Committee has received a $100,000 grant through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Divison of Outdoor Recreation to offset costs. Eighty percent of the construction costs will be covered by the grant. The remaining 20 percent, plus land acquisition, is being sought through private and in-kind donations.

The board gave Warsaw Fire Chief Matt Warren permission to proceed with the purchase of the Priser property adjacent to fire station No. 2 at a cost of $57,500.

A contract with Confidential Shredding Services to shred confidential materials generated by the police department was conditionally approved.

Warsaw Police Department Captain Paul Schmitt said the shredder service would be used to destroy copies of applicants resumes after use by a review board as well as computer printouts. He said no originals or historical documentation would be shredded such as incident or accident reports.

Clerk-treasurer Elaine Call said the State Board of Accounts is currently holding meetings on what records can be destroyed and that confidential records have to be listed before they are shredded.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins directed attorney Bill Fawley to investigate what is appropriate by calling the Indiana State Police, the body overseeing destruction of documents, as well as Charlie Pride of the State Board of Accounts.

In other business the board:

• Approved four contracts as presented by the parks department activity director Janelle Wilson: with Whatzup Entertainment Weekly for advertising in the amount of $549.75; with State-Pro for backline equipment during the Classic Rock Concert in the amount of $1,575; with Tim Anderson of The Bel Airs to perform during the Friday Evening Performing Arts Series in the amount of $750; and a WLZQ Q101 advertising contract regarding the Classic Rock Concert in the amount of $1,650.

• Approved new hires: for the street department, Jeffery Gaff; for the parks department, Kale Elkins, Eric Shaw, Jennifer Finch, Nicholas Bruick, Jaclyn Thallemer, Melissa Blaschke, Michael Jenks, Sarah Cook, Laura Noggle, Matthew Krallman, Jenna Gross, Cory Gackenheimer, Chelsea Boyd, Michael Thallemer, Laurel Jenks, Jacob Wilson and Kevin Walker.

• Heard trapped debris was removed from Center Lake's northern dam a couple of days ago by city employees.

The water level was lowered 8-inches, according to board member Jerry Patterson, just in time for the rains to refill the lake.
