At its Friday morning meeting, the City of Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved the Parks and Recreation Department’s request to replace the current equipment at the park.
The present equipment at Lucerne is redwood from the 1980s and has several safety concerns. The new equipment will replace all of the old pieces at the park except the spiral slide and swing set.
The Parks Board reviewed several playground pieces and recommended purchasing Little Tikes commercial playground equipment and safety surface from Parkreation for $19,700.
The 1980s fitness equipment at Lucerne Park will be replaced with an Apollo 12 Station Multi-Gym for $15,165. The MultiGym piece will be installed near the proposed new playground equipment to allow for adults to exercise while their children play.
In other business, the BOW approved:
• Closing South Johnson Street between East Center and Jefferson streets and East Market Street between South Colfax and South Lincoln streets from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 4 for the Warsaw Car Show. The event will be from 2 to 9 p.m.
• Closing South Buffalo Street from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in front of Rex’s Rendezvous for its 36th annual poker run. The event will include a bike show and beer tent.
• An addition to the Parks Department’s Broadvoice contract for $14.08 per month. The Broadvoice contract was approved by the BOW at its March 4 meeting. This addition is required for a metered extension for its fire alarm system at the Pete Thorn Center. With the upgrade to Warsaw Fiber the metered extension and analog telephone adapter is required to run the fire alarm and direct call system service by Cottage Watchman. The system needs to be on its own line so no interruption occurs.
• For the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory to apply for a $2,000 Kosciusko REMC Operation Round-Up Grant to help fund the Family Safety Day, which is Sept. 10. The event brings together local clubs, service organizations and public safety organizations to provide health and safety information to the community.
• Stephen Saner’s request to be charged the $300 county resident itinerant merchant fee instead of the $1,000 out-of-county resident fee to operate his mobile food truck at the new Lincoln Elementary School construction site. Though he doesn’t live in the county, he owns property in the county currently occupied by his parents.
• A parking lease agreement with Instru-Med Technologies, per City Planner Jeremy Skinner’s request.
As the city prepares for the Buffalo Street Redevelopment project, it has been working with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to relocate the existing boat on Buffalo Street to property owned by the city’s parks department along Ind. 15. In the process, the city is modifying the lease agreement to exclude the area that will be occupied by the new boat ramp in summer 2017. This modification reduces the existing lease agreement by about 15 parking spaces, and reduces the lease rental rate accordingly.
The existing lease expires at the end of May. The current agreement is for 52 spaces at $8,500 over five years, while the new agreement is for 37 spaces at $6,050 over five years.
• An encroachment agreement for TTSO LLC (Redwood IT).
The company purchased the property at 501 Argonne Road and is in the process of rehabilitating the existing manufacturing facility that will house portions of Redwood IT’s operations. As a part of those renovations, they are looking to reuse an existing sign base that is in the city’s right of way. Skinner said the proposed encroachment will not interfere with the city’s future road improvement plans.
• Wastewater Utility’s request for an agreement with Invoice Cloud for online payment processing and recording.
• A contract with Chicago Dog House to cater a city employee picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28 at Lucerne Park for $985. Chicago Dog House will provide, cook and serve 350 hot dogs with full condiments. Additional hot dogs may be purchased in increments of 25 for $75 per 25 dogs.
• A long-term disability insurance plan with UNUM for an estimated $1,545.31 per month. This plan replaces the city’s current plan.[[In-content Ad]]
