Bond Denied For Fisher

Jason Fisher will remain in jail while he awaits trial on a murder charge.

Fisher, 22, of Middlebury, testified briefly during a hearing Wednesday in Kosciusko Circuit Court regarding whether he could find employment if he was released on bond.

Judge Rex Reed denied Fisher's request for bond to be set, saying that the burden of proof was on the defense to show that the offense should be bailable. Reed ruled the presumption of support for the probable cause affidavit was strong based on evidence presented during the hearing.

Reed previously denied defense requests for a change of venue in the case or to choose jurors from outside Kosciusko County.

During Wednesday's hourlong hearing, the court also heard testimony from Fisher's minister, Milford Town Marshal Dave Hobbs and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Detective Travis Marsh.

Hobbs offered a sketch of the investigation leading to the arrests of Fisher, his father, and three others in connection with the death of Kathy Vroman, 48, of Milford. Vroman was working for Fisher at his Milford business, Country Car Co., and officials have said that her death has ties to auto thefts related to Fisher's business dealings.

Marsh told the court about a statement taken from Ralph Freddrick Fisher, 46, of Goshen. He is charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice after reportedly learning of the alleged murder from his son and offering advice on how to dispose of the body and clean up the evidence.

Also arrested in connection with Vroman's death was Lawrence Grant, 29, of Shipshewana, who is being held in the Noble County Jail on local charges of assisting a criminal, unlawful movement of a body and auto theft.

Vroman's husband, William Vroman, 32, formerly of Milford, is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of auto theft, and George W. Aldrich, 28, of Etna Green, is charged with auto theft and burglary. The charges against Vroman and Aldrich resulted from a Dec. 2 theft of more than $100,000 worth of vehicles from Rice Ford in Warsaw.

The next hearing in Jason Fisher's case is a pretrial conference set for May 30. A trial date for the case could be set at that time. [[In-content Ad]]
