Bobby Joe Luce Sr., 56, Warsaw, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and prayer, at 3:14 p.m. Sept. 23, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born April 7, 1958, in Austin, Texas, the youngest of 10 children, to Jesse Lee and Mildred O’Keeffe Luce. In 1976, in Manor, Texas, he married JoAnn Birch, to whom he was married for many years.
They had two children, B.J. and Jessica, and were later divorced. He found love again in 2003 with his fiancée, Kelly Blair. He and Kelly had two children, Gracie and Noah.
He was a native of Austin, and grew up on Austin’s east side. He was a resident of Warsaw since 2005. He greatly enjoyed his work as a manufacturing engineer at Zimmer for the past 24 years. He loved cooking, fishing, hunting, gardening and, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed.
He will be lovingly remembered by his fiancée, Warsaw: two sons, Bobby Joe Luce Jr., Manor, and Noah Aaron Luce, Warsaw; two daughters, Jessica Leeann Luce, Manor, and Grace Ann Luce, Warsaw; seven grandchildren: Kaila, Chance, Miriam, Alec, Emily, Isabelle, and Ella; three brothers: Jesse (and spouse Threcia) Luce, Warsaw; Ellwood (and spouse Faye) Luce, Houston, Texas; Herman (and spouse Evelyn) Luce, Richland Springs, Texas; and five sisters: Jerry Eller, Richland Springs; Anna Belle Martinets, Austin; Jessie Carol (and spouse Jimmy) Chatwell, Rockport, Texas; Joyce Marie Chatwell, Midland, Texas; and Lola Mae (and spouse Don) Campbell, Waco, Texas. He also has many nieces and nephews whom he loved, and they adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved step-father George Knapp; his brother, James Calvin Luce; and three brothers-in-law: Robert Earl Eller, Bill Martinets, and “Pappy” Chatwell.
A memorial service will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. A celebration of life and releasing of ashes will take place at a later date at Goose Island State Park, near Rockport, Texas.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
