NAPPANEE - Birdie M. Neff-Berger, 100, died at 7:20 p.m. June 1, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa.

She was born Nov. 16, 1908, in Lincoln County, Ky., to Lewis Alvin and Sarah Eva Rogers Gooch. In 1931, in Nappanee, she married Gerald Neff, who died in 1959. In 1960, in Elkhart, she married Harry Berger, who died in 1983.

She was a Nappanee High School graduate and a homemaker. She was a member of Union Center Church of the Brethren and the YWCA, Elkhart.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry (and spouse Thelma) Neff, Nappanee, and Jim (and spouse Carroll) Neff, Temecula, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Peggy Pigors, Canyon County, Calif.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Hirsh, Mesa, Ariz. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and three sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Stan Owen officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.

Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
