Billy Thomas Yates, 70, went to be with the Lord at 10 p.m. Oct. 27, 2008, in his residence, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born March 5, 1938, in Floyd County, Ky., to Thomas and Katie Spencer Yates. On July 11, 1960, in Paintsville, Ky., he married Myrtle Irene Tackett, who survives.

He was a production worker at Jomac Products, retiring after 33 years. He attended Freewill Baptist Church, Silver Lake. He loved his family, friends, vacations and family get-togethers. He was a great and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He resided in the Warsaw and Pierceton areas for 46 years, coming from Paintsville, Ky.

Also surviving are a son, Darrell Yates (and companion Claudia), Claypool; three daughters: Deborah (and spouse Darrell) James, Silver Lake; Danita (and spouse Preston) Honea, Leesburg; and Dawn (and spouse Craig) Miller, Warsaw; three sisters: Dorothy (and spouse Wayne) Singer, North Manchester; Martha (and spouse Charlie) Floyd, Akron; and Dora McConnel, Prestonsburg, Ky.; four brothers: Dewey (and spouse Josephine) Yates, Warsaw; Elmer Yates, Greenspring, Ohio; Denvil (and spouse Mary) Yates, Mealy, Ky.; and Benny (and spouse Linda) Yates, Prestonsburg, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Harold Yates; and a sister, Margy Goble.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Freewill Baptist Church, 2503 W. CR 900S, Silver Lake, with Pastor Loren Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 p.m. today until the time of service Friday at the church.

Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
