Bill on Recycling Passes House
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Staff Report-
House Bill 1183 requires recycling collectors to submit an annual activity report to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
The bill also establishes a state goal of recycling at least 50 percent of all municipal waste by 2019.
Currently, Indiana does not have a way of identifying or reporting how much is recycled annually and has no statewide goal for recycling municipal solid waste.
“This is a crucial first step in advancing recycling in our state,” Wolkins said. “Recycling is one of our strongest avenues for pursuing sustainability on the local level. I believe that these reports provide valuable information that will help us take a fresh look at recycling in Indiana.”
The House bill will move to the Senate for further discussion and debate.
