Former President Bill Clinton addressed rebuilding the middle class, the economy and supporting the troops Saturday during his stop in Warsaw.

Clinton spoke for 50 minutes at Warsaw Community High School Career Center Gymnasium about why his wife Hillary would be the best president. He brought the "Solutions For America" speech to approximately 1,200 people who attended the event.

He also made stops in Kendallville, Angola, Columbia City, LaPorte and Indianapolis. Indiana's primary is Tuesday.[[In-content Ad]]"We are a nation that only works when there is shared prosperity, opportunity and responsibility, and we are a very long way from that today," Clinton said.

He said the first task of the next president is to restore the nation by rebuilding the middle class.

He said reasons to vote for Hillary are that she has the best economic plan, she would be the best commander in chief and the best manager of diplomatic efforts, and be the best change maker.

"America needs change and someone who can look at a problem, see what can be done to empower people to make better lives by providing jobs, education and better healthcare," Bill said.

He said, to rebuild the middle class, more jobs need to be created. Hillary proposes the first 8 million jobs to not be outsourced and 3 million jobs be created to fix roads, bridges and streets.

Bill said in the 1990s, when he was president, 22.7 million new jobs were created. Under Bush's presidency, only 5 million jobs were created.

In the 1990s, there were 8 million people working their way up from poverty to the middle class. In this decade, there were 5 million people who fell from the middle class into poverty.

He discussed the importance of making a commitment to energy independence by using homegrown energy and energy efficiency, and bringing manufacturing back to America and investing in technology.

"The fundamental problem is that we are not a country of shared prosperity, we are a country of shared inequality," Clinton said.

Bill also discussed healthcare. He said health care costs cannot be solved until everyone is covered.

Hillary would be the best person to bring troops home from Iraq, according to Bill. He said Indiana has given more National Guardsmen for service in Iraq and Afghanistan than any other state.

He said Hillary passed a bill that says then guardsmen and reserves come home they are required to receive the same heath care benefits as regular servicemen and women.

Hillary also would require every man and woman coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan be tested for brain injuries, Bill said.

"If you are tired of making excuses and want to make progress, you ought to vote for Hillary for president," Bill said.
