AKRON - Betty Sue Hammond, 63, of 11442 E. CR 225S, Akron, died at 6:18 a.m. March 16, 2007, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born Jan. 19, 1944, in Paint Lick, Ky., to James Jay and Effie Lee Keene Rogers. On Dec. 23, 1976, in Akron, she married Steven R. Hammond, who survives.

She was a homemaker.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Tiena) Carnes, Argos; four sons: William "Bill" Fields, Akron; Chris Fields and Randell Fields, both of Rochester; and Sean Hammond, Argos; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight sisters: Mildred Bowles and Joyce Kirk, both of Plainfield; Barbara Cooper, Everton; Mary Guache and Annie McWhorter, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; Janie Day and Wanda Spurgin, both of Cambridge City; and Pam Wright, Rushville; and a brother, James Rogers, Connersville. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial will be in Athens Cemetery.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
