NORTH MANCHESTER – Betty Lee Engelman, 93, of Peru, and formerly of North Manchester, died at 4:30 a.m. Oct. 24, 2012, in her residence.

She was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Wabash, to James Harley and Abby E. Grist Garner. On June 17, 1947, she married Marvin B. Engelman, who died May 12, 2007.

She worked at Wagners, Wabash,  for 27 years, retiring in 1985. She volunteered at the Marion V.A. Hospital for 17 years. She formerly worked for A&W Drive-In and Central Café, both of Wabash. She was a lifelong resident of Wabash County until 2009 when she went to live with her daughters in Miami County.

Surviving are a son, Allen (and spouse Connie) Bitzell, Greentown; four daughters: Mary (and spouse Gerry) Field, Peru; Susan (and spouse Ray) Wyatt, Upland; Chloe (and spouse Bob) Hettmansperger, Wabash; Peggy (and spouse Robin) King, Macy; 14 grandchildren;                 59 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, four brothers, six sisters and a grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
