SWAYZEE – Betty King, 79, Marion, died at 5:45 p.m. July 27, 2014, in Marion General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Blackford County to Carl and Thelma Stephenson Banter. She married Paul D. King, who preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2003.
She graduated in 1952 from Petroleum High School. She was a former resident of Hartford City. She retired from Pierce Governor after 30 years. She was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose Auxiliary. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, being at home, watching TV, Perry Mason and detective shows. She loved the cartoon character Betty Boop.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy (and spouse Chuck) Tharp, Warsaw, and Julie (and spouse David) Sprowl, Marion; a brother, Bob Banter, Montpelier; a half-sister, Fern Ann (and spouse Vaughn) Emery, Hartford City; two half-brothers, Jeffrey and Carl (and spouse Vicki) Banter, all of Montpelier; five grandchildren: Rob, Melissa, Charles, Joshua and Stephen; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Janet Farler.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee.
Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
