BOURBON - Betsy Mae Barnes, 70, of Zionsville, and formerly of Bourbon, died unexpectedly Nov. 1, 2009, in St. Vincent Hospital of Indianapolis.

She was born April 11, 1939, in Howard County, to Howard and Esther Parks Dillingham. On Oct. 30, 1989, she married Ralph Barnes, who died in July 2009.

She was a resident of the Bourbon area and the past 20 years were at Zionsville. She was a retired nurse working in Bremen, Warsaw, the Cleveland Clinic, a short time in Hawaii and most recently in the Indianapolis area. She was a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1958 and later from Memorial Hospital of South Bend School of Nursing. She enjoyed being a seamstress, reading, knitting, crocheting and she had a love for her dogs.

Surviving are her four children: Lisa (and spouse Jeff) Dormire, Etna Green; Kathi (and spouse Seth) Faulkner, Bourbon; Thomas (and spouse Amy) Schaetzle, Knightstown; and Marla (and spouse James) Hendrix, Bourbon; five step-children; Kathleen, Tim, Julie and Jeff Barnes and Beth Courtney; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Jim (and spouse Sue) Dillingham. Shreveport, La. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Jon, and a brother, Bill Reese.

A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.

Calling is from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
