The benefit is for Danny Privett, 38, and is from noon to 6 p.m. at the Shrine Building, 1400 E. Smith St., Warsaw.
Privett’s parents are Paul and Kathy Snell, Warsaw.
Privett has stage 4 melanoma cancer, which started as a skin cancer spreading to his spinal cord, lung, stomach and bone.
He is married to Lisa, and they have three children, Rylan, 12, Hayden, 9, and Kennedy, 8.
Privett was working as a medical courier for Now Courier Inc. Delivery, Fort Wayne. He began to experience numbness and tingling in his arms in October and could not drive, according to Privett’s mother, Kathy.
The symptoms turned out to be associated with stage 4 melanoma cancer that he was diagnosed with in November.
Snell said Privett’s wife also had to quit her job to care for her husband.
“The love, prayers and financial support we have received from people in Ossian, Syracuse, Warsaw, and Fort Wayne has been amazing,” she said.
Snell said Saturday’s benefit will help with Privett’s medical expenses when he travels from Ossian to Indianapolis for treatment.
The benefit will be a catered spaghetti dinner, with raffles and door prizes. There also will be a silent auction with more than 30 vendors.
Tickets for the dinner are $10.
He saw a doctor Nov. 5 for some tingling in his arms that was getting worse.
Tests revealed a large tumor inside his spinal cord nearly touching his brain stem. He rapidly deteriorated to losing any mobility from the neck down and became a quadriplegic.
After an 8-1/2-hour surgery to remove the tumor, the biopsy showed stage 4 melanoma cancer.
After a two-month stay at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, and radiation treatments this month, he will be moved to a rehabilitation facility for spinal cord injury patients and also start chemotherapy to treat the cancer.
For more information, call Denise Tankersley at 574-534-6113, Tami Nelson at 574-275-1407 or Kathy Snell at 574-268-8827.[[In-content Ad]]
