AKRON - Ben Floyd Fleck, 73, of 340 E. 18th St., Rochester, (Hickory Creek Nursing Home), and formerly of Orlando, Fla., and Akron, died at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 2, 2007, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

He was born Oct. 14, 1933, in North Manchester, to Floyd W. and Daisy L. Brooks Fleck.

He formerly worked at General Tire, Wabash; as a security guard at Florida State University; DeLaughter Mortuary, North Manchester; and Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. He attended Akron High School. He was an avid hunter, loved to play Euchre, enjoyed going to the dog races and loved to play croquet, which when playing, always had to have the maroon mallet and ball.

Surviving are four daughters: Deborah Babcock, Raleigh, N.C.; Cheryl A. McCullough, Akron; Mrs. Frank (Linda) Kamp, Rochester; and Kelly Banter, North Manchester; three sons: Steve Fleck, Macy; Tim Fleck (and fiance Kelly Strahlem), Akron; and Jeffery Allen Banter, North Manchester; a sister, Mrs. George (Marcille) McGlennen, Clarksville, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline M. Fleck.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastors Steve Fleck and Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
