Michael Joseph Beavers once lived in this area before moving back to Michigan, Warsaw police learned today.

According to Detective Sgt. Steve Adang of the Warsaw Police Department, Beavers, 38, and his first wife lived in a mobile home park on CR 29, in Elkhart County, just outside Syracuse, in the early 1990s. At that time, Adang said, Beavers worked at Hoskins, a manufacturing facility in New Paris that is no longer in business.

Adang said he believes Beavers lived near Syracuse for only "a couple of years," and moved back to Michigan in the early 1990s.

"About the time he left is when he starting getting in trouble up there," Adang said.

Beavers reportedly entered The Cutting Edge around 9 a.m. with a sawed-off rifle and knife Monday, tied up four female employees, sexually assaulted one and cut another before reportedly committing suicide.

Though Beavers, who lived with his parents in Dearborn Heights, Mich., was previously in this area, Adang said, "We have no reason to believe he knew the people at The Cutting Edge."

Adang also said he doesn't believe Beavers was arrested while he was in this area.

Beavers stayed in Warsaw for two nights, Saturday and Sunday, at the Dollar Inn before checking out at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Adang said. [[In-content Ad]]
