Beaman Reaches Out To Community To Complete Shelter

By Staff Report-

Beaman Home leaders are seeking the community’s help finalizing the campaign to build the two-story emergency shelter on the west end of its new outreach center, 603 N. Parker St., Warsaw.
Funds have been raised to construct the exterior walls of the shelter and extended reception area.  The final push is on to finish funding for the inside of the addition.
Executive Director Tracie Hodson expressed appreciation for funds received so far in the campaign, adding, “This community has been very generous to us over the years and we are so grateful for that. We now need the community’s help to wrap up our capital campaign.  Only with the continued generosity of our community will Beaman Home be able to open our new emergency shelter in early 2016.”
Hodson said Beaman and its board of directors are seeking 100 individuals, businesses and/or organizations willing to donate $3,000 (outright donation or $1,000 per year over three years) to complete the new shelter.
“Any donation will be greatly appreciated. We would like to finalize the campaign by October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” Hodson said.
She said that gifts of appreciated stock also can be accepted.
The Beaman Home outgrew its small existing emergency shelter. The addition of the new shelter on Parker Street will increase family rooms from three to 11, including three rooms in a men’s wing, reducing the overcrowded conditions that currently exist.
“Having our new emergency shelter connected to the outreach center will allow us to serve our clients securely from one facility,” Hodson said.
“Our programs work to reduce victims’ repeated involvement with abusers and reduce or eliminate the generational cycle of domestic violence so prevalent in abused families,” she added.
Having clients at one location also will save time for staff and clients as they work through counseling and training sessions, which take place at the outreach center. One location also provides additional security for victims, according to Hodson.
Beaman Home’s administrative staff and outreach advocates recently moved into the completed outreach center. Their approach to serving domestic violence families with the emergency shelter and outreach center campus allows both residential and non-residential clients to participate in on-going training programs, support groups and counseling.
Pledges and donations may be sent to The Beaman Home, P.O. Box 12, Warsaw, IN  46581-0012.
