Torrey Bauer will run for the Superior Court II seat in the May 6 Republican primary election.

Current Superior Court II Judge James Jarrette was unopposed in the 2002 election.

Election filing begins Jan. 23 and ends at noon Feb. 22. The last day for candidate withdraws is Feb. 25 at noon. The general election will be Nov. 4.

Bauer, 43, said he is running for the Superior Court II seat because he desires to implement a more efficient and cost-effective system of judicial administration in Superior II.

"The general belief is that Superior II can be run more efficiently and economically than it presently is," Bauer said.

"The manner in which Superior II operates daily creates a drain on county and law enforcement resources. After working in courts all over northern Indiana, I know there are alternatives."

Bauer said he would resolve the dispute which has existed since April 2004 between Superior II and the prosecutor's office over the handling of probation violations.

"This dispute significantly delays the resolution of probation violations and has resulted in Superior II hiring an out-of-county prosecutor at county taxpayer expenses to handle these matters," Bauer said.

He said if he is elected, he would be humbled by the opportunity to serve and would take every step to administer a firm, efficient, cost-effective and conservative-minded court for the residents of Kosciusko County.

Bauer is a partner at Lavender and Bauer P.C. where he practices criminal, family, personal injury, business and estate-planning law. He also handles workman's compensation and Social Security claims.

Bauer is a 1986 graduate of Grace College and a 1991 honors graduate of Indiana University Law School.

Bauer is a member of the Indiana State and Kosciusko County bar associations and is licensed to practice law within the northern and southern Indiana United States Federal District Courts.

In addition to his private practice, Bauer has served in Kosciusko Circuit and Superior Court I as a court-appointed defender and as a public defender in Kosciusko Superior II for the past 17 years.

Bauer is involved in the community by teaching business law at Ivy-Tech Community College from 1993 to 2004. He has volunteered since 1998 as the assistant men's varsity soccer coach for Warsaw Community High School.

Bauer also serves on the board of directors of county non-profit organizations, including the City-County Athletic Complex and Heartline Pregnancy Center.

He also supports Kosciusko County Right to Life and is a member of Valley Springs Fellowship Church.

He lives in Warsaw with his wife, Julie, and their daughter.
