Well, it's the middle of June and if you're like me you're tired of watching the Cubbies already. Fortunately, you have options this weekend out on the campus of Grace College at the beautiful OCC.
You can be a spectator at two outstanding basketball events. Few counties in the state of Indiana can boast of the history and traditions we have here in our county. From the great small school teams that made the trek to the state finals in the early years of Indiana basketball like Syracuse, Atwood, Beaver Dam and Mentone to the thrill of the 1984 state champions the Warsaw Tigers, our county has excelled on the hardwood. We have cheered for Mr. and Miss Basketball's, future NBA players, Indiana All-Stars and legendary Hall of Fame coaches. We have cheered record-setting teams and even tolerated a few outstanding referees. On Friday night we will honor our storied past with a banquet and induction ceremony for 18 men that helped make Kosciusko County basketball what it is today.
On Saturday we showcase the present with a summer basketball tournament that includes some of the elite boys and girls programs in the state of Indiana. Programs recognized throughout the state of Indiana for well-coached teams with a ton of individual talent. We look forward to great competition in the tradition of our county basketball.
A group of dedicated men and women have worked hard for more than a year to make these events happen. The goals were simple: to document and honor our basketball history and to showcase our present schools and players in a world class facility and most importantly to let people have fun and enjoy the wonderful Indiana game of baskeball.
I hope you find the time this weekend to attend and support one or both of these events, the price is reasonable and I'll bet you'll have a hard time not enjoying yourself. So there you go. The Cubbies have 100 games left and they can get by a game or two without your loyal dedication, so I hope to see you this weekend.
