COLUMBIA CITY - Basil A. Rice, 69, of High Lake, died at 10:42 a.m. April 15, 2007, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Huntington, to Melvin and Blythe Jacobs Rice. On Oct. 29, 1988, he married Nina L. Patrick, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, including Brent Rice, Pierceton; six stepchildren; 16 grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wolf Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wray McCalester officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Members of the Cromwell/Kimmell Lions Club will have a service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
