Barbee Group Clarifies Plans For Future

BARBEE LAKE- The Barbee Lakes Conservancy District restated its purpose at Tuesday night's monthly meeting.
After some confusion arose regarding the new board's intentions, board members clarified their plans for the future.
"It's a two-prong thing," said Barry Hecker, president of the board. "One is that we're going to study the lake and try to do that using the LARE feasibility study."
The Lake and River Enhancement study tests the water quality and sources of contamination.
The second point of the BLCD is to investigate the other technologies available that may help solve the problems with the densely populated low-lying areas by the lake.
If the LARE program reveals that all septic systems are polluting the lake, then, according to Hecker, they will be back on the original plan.
While the board waits for the results of the LARE study, it is continuing its plans to investigate other options.
During Tuesday's meeting, Clyde E. Williams & Associates gave a presentation. Company representatives Steve Fralish and Roland Klockow told the board about smaller types of systems that would serve the densely populated areas and not the entire lake.
Even though the presenters began by speaking negatively on the large system plan developed by the Bonar Group, Hecker said, it got people asking questions and turned out to be "a pretty good meeting."
Hecker said the format of the meeting would represent the direction of the BLCD. He said they would continue to bring in presenters and allow people to be a part of the learning process by asking questions.
"Then, hopefully, by the time we get somewhere that we're ready to make some decisions that everybody is knowledgeable about it," said Hecker.
Richard Helm of Rockhill, Pinnick, Pequignot, Helm, Landis and Rigdon was appointed as the BLCD attorney.
The BLCD newsletter will begin circulating soon. The board agreed on obtaining a bulk mailing number and software to begin preparing a newsletter. They would like to have it begin sometime before the next meeting, which will be held June 13 at 8 a.m. in the Barbee Conservation Building. [[In-content Ad]]
