She was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Fort Wayne, to Staton and Tereva May Moody Osburn. On Oct. 12, 1953, she married Alden VanNess, who died May 25, 1970. In April 1973, she married James Hawn, who died Sept. 19, 1976.
She lived most of her life in Kosciusko County and worked at Sun Metal Products, Warsaw, for 42 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary 258, Pierceton. She loved her cat, Carmel. She was very independent, enjoyed the Senior Center very much and was the instructor for chair aerobics. In earlier years she enjoyed water activities on the lake.
Surviving are a son, Doug VanNess, North Webster; a grandson, Jared (and spouse Melanie) VanNess, Warsaw; a granddaughter, Jennifer Cole, Warsaw; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Osburn, Akron. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Kim and Allen VanNess; and six brothers, Richard, Harry, James, Loren, Earl and John Osburn.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
