She was born in Green Bay, Wis., to Bernard and Eleanor Vermeire. She married Robert Colcord, who preceded her in death.
She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Defiance College and a master's degree in counseling from the University of St. Francis. She was a registered nurse for more than 35 years, working at St. Joe Hospital, and retiring from Lindenview in 1999. She was a former member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church and American Nurses Association. She was a former volunteer at Civic Theatre Great Guild, Urban League, NAACP and Girl Scouts of America.
Surviving are three daughters: Mary (and spouse Bruce) Hartman, Leo; Orene Colcord (and Kevin Richards), Fort Wayne; and Kathleen (and spouse David) Fleming, Grand Rapids, Mich.; three sons, Robert Colcord (and Lisa Ortega) and Christopher Colcord (and Lori Platt), all of Warsaw; and Patrick (and spouse Jeanne) Colcord, Indianapolis; a brother Phillip (and spouse Mary) Vermeire, Green Bay, Wis.; four sisters Laverne Kiley and Mary (and spouse Jerry) Verhaagh, both of Green Bay; Karen (and spouse Sonny) Thompson, Hamilton, Texas; and Janice (and spouse Tom) Tilkens, Cape Coral, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and special friends Bernice Parham, California, and Mary Tyree, Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ruth Arpin and Helen Vermeire.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Road, with Father John Kuzmich officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. There will be a family eulogy at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
