Mills was a 2009 graduate of Columbia City High School, according to the high school’s alumni association website.
According to information previously provided by the Indiana State Police and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Chad Hill, at approximately 6 p.m. Friday, Mills allegedly entered First Financial Bank, 106 N. Market St., North Manchester, with a handgun and demanded money.
Within moments, the suspect exited the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, got on a bicycle and rode a short distance to a Ford Ranger pickup truck. A witness observed this and followed the truck while relaying the information to 911 dispatchers, according to the ISP press release. Officers from the North Manchester Police Department caught up to the vehicle and as they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect attempted to evade them as he entered Kosciusko County on Ind. 13.
According to Hill, the suspect stopped his vehicle on Ind. 13 near the intersection with Ind. 14. As he was being given numerous verbal commands by officers, he reportedly turned his firearm on himself inside of his truck.
South Whitley officers arrived shortly afterward and approached the vehicle along with the North Manchester officer and determined that the male suspect was suffering from a gunshot wound, according to previous information from Hill. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but immediately contacted Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Wilson from injuries that appeared to be consistent with self-inflicted gunshot wounds.[[In-content Ad]]
