By Chris Tulley-
He told the board at its regular meeting last night that, “My time is done.” This ended his third term as board president.
Baldwin will still serve on the board for at least the remainder of 2016.
The board then moved to elect former Vice President Steve Haines as the new president. Larry Ladd was elected vice president. Haines made sure to share his appreciation for Baldwin’s service with the rest of the group.
Shaun Gardner, Parks & Recreation Department maintenance manager, said that all Christmas decorations have been taken down and stored in the department’s new pole barn. He said that concessions from Central Park raised over $2,000 this season, which is $400 more than 2014.
The board discussed having NIPSCO provide a natural gas connection to the camp sites at Pike Lake, the firemen’s building and the pole barn. According to Baldwin, this could make the sites more effective in the winter.
The Parks Department received two large grants. The first is for $1,500 toward the family carnival, and the second is to purchase a set of paddle boards for rental use in the summer. The board plans to teach paddle board lessons in the same way it offered canoe and kayak rentals in previous years.
The next park board meeting will be Feb. 16 at 5:15 p.m. at the firemen’s building.[[In-content Ad]]
