Back To The Days of Kosciuszko celebrated its 20th anniversary in Warsaw this weekend.

Currently held at the Red Brush Village on the grounds of the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds, the event is a look back at what life was like during the time of Thaddeus Kosciuszko.

Kosciusko County is the anglicized namesake of Kosciuszko.[[In-content Ad]]Kosciuszko was born in Poland on February 4, 1746. By the time Kosciuszko arrived in America from Poland in 1776, he was a skilled engineer who came to offer his services to the American colonies in their struggle for independence. On October 18, 1776 Kosciuszko was commissioned as Colonel of Engineers by the Continental Congress. His work of fortifying battle sites is often credited with America's ability to defeat the British.

He died in 1817.

Common Stock Entertainments, consisting of P.L. Richardson and R.L. McKay from Indianapolis, were on hand this weekend to provide what they call "historic entertainment of the common folk".

Dressed in traditional outfits from that time, the two have what they call "a turnip truck of wonders."

The couple said they enjoy re-creating early American history because "all paths were open".

The duo said they've been doing all over the south and midwest and enjoy not only helping teach people about an aspect of early American life but also meeting fellow re-enactors.

That includes a married couple from Elgin, Ill., whose names were unavailable, who vividly portrayed Ben and Deborah Franklin.

When asked how Ben Franklin would react to the United states today, he responded quickly.

"What have you done to my country," said Franklin.

The couple has done re-enactments for 25 years and still learn more about the two historical figures constantly.

According to its Web site, the event was held in 1989 in 1989. David Taylor, a commander of the Virginia Navy re-enactor group was the event coordinator.

In July 2000, after losing funding, the event became incorporated as a not-for-profit.

On Friday, as has become tradition, School Day took place. Fourth grade students are invited to a day of hands on demonstrations. School Day has hosted as many as 1,300 students.
