Students and staff at Lakeview Middle School participated in a 1950s and 1960s day Friday. This week the seventh-grade students will begin reading ‘The Outsiders,’ a classic young adult novel set in that time period. The seventh-grade language arts classes spent the previous two weeks researching the culture of the 1950s and 1960s including the music, cars, political events, art, television, movies, fashion, hairstyles and tobacco use. They then wrote an essay and presented their findings to their classmates. The themed day was to celebrate the culmination of their research projects and the kickoff of the novel. Along with discussion of theme and symbolism, the students also watched a book trailer for ‘The Outsiders.’ The trailer was acted, filmed and edited by the language arts department at Lakeview. Teachers at LMS hope to inspire and equip students by making the history behind the book come alive.[[In-content Ad]]
