Earlier this year, Higgins was “The Bachelor” on ABC’s romantic reality show. By the time season 20 ended, he picked Lauren Bushnell and they got engaged. Higgins also had appeared on the previous season of “The Bachelorette,” becoming a fan favorite on that reality show and leading him to “The Bachelor.”
Now, according to CNN, Higgins and Bushnell have landed another reality show, “Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After,” on Disney’s Freeform network.
The show will premiere in October and follow Higgins and Bushnell as they prepare for their wedding, CNN reports. The series also will feature the couple as they adjust to life as newlyweds in “the real world.”
US Weekly reports Higgins, 28, and Bushnell, 26, will film the unscripted show beginning this summer about their life in Denver.
“Ben and Lauren are the biggest Bachelor couple of the last 10 years,” Karey Burke, Freeform's executive vice president of programming and development, said in a statement. “Their romance captured everyone’s attention, and we are delighted to continue their story on Freeform.”
Yahoo News reports Higgins will also explore a career in politics while Bushnell seeks to find her identity following the final rose ceremony.
On June 2, The Colorado Independent reported Higgins, a software consultant and Republican, confirmed to it that Higgins is seriously considering a run for Colorado House of Representatives, House District 4, which encompasses the Sloan’s Lake area of Denver. He already has launched a website at www.benhigginsforcolorado.com to let potential supporters know about his decision. The GOP is hoping Higgins’ name recognition and popularity will help him unseat Democratic Rep. Dan Pabon, who was arrested for suspicion of DUI in March, The Colorado Independent reported. Republicans already nominated Willie Pinkston to run, but Pinkston has stated he would step aside if Higgins was to decide to seek the seat.
CNN also reports that an ABC special on the history of the reality show franchise revealed in February that only five couples actually have married. This spinoff suggests Higgins and Bushnell will be the sixth.[[In-content Ad]]
