Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County and Maurice's, Warsaw, will co-host a style show titled "Rescues and Runways" Saturday at 3 p.m.

The show will be at the outdoor stadium overlooking the beach at Winona Lake Park. In case of poor weather it will be held in the adjacent building.

Animals at the event will be available for adoption. The event will give attendees an opportunity to see their potential pets as they react in a social situation.

Admission is a donation of any amount in cash or check, chew toys, collars, leashes, kitty treats, peanut butter for kong toys, paper towels, liquid laundry detergent and bleach.

Human models will model Maurice's fall fashions and will walk with pets available for adoption at the AWL.

Maurice's will give a discount coupon to anyone making a donation to the shelter during September. Coupons also will be given at the style show.

"This is a fun way to bring attention to a very serious issue in our community," said Kelli Ringler, Maurice's manager. "The tough economy is forcing some families to surrender their pets to animal shelters, while at the same time the financial support for shelters is decreasing dramatically."

Darla McCammon, AWL executive director, said the benefit is a good way to raise public awareness about animals that need to be rescued and gain donations of needed items and funds.

"It should be a fun event for everyone attending and accomplish some good things for the shelter at the same time," McCammon said.
