Toto, a shelter stray, and a lovable dust mop dog, will portray "Sandy" in the musical, which depicts the story of Annie and Daddy Warbucks and the orphan's quest for a family. Toto, a real orphan, has been in training to perform his role for the play.
"We have utilized Brian Gagye, our shelter trainer, to work with Toto in order to have a good performance," said Darla McCammon, executive director of the AWL. "We are excited about the opportunity to showcase one of our many great pets, and to let the public see the wonderful things we do, including the training we offer every Thursday."
The dog must stay with Annie during one of her songs, must be able to "come" when called by Annie, and must walk correctly on a leash.
The AWL will have a presence and a display at the play.[[In-content Ad]]AWL board president Carol Haldewang and McCammon will offer insights into the good work done by the AWL for the community.
