Atwood To Celebrate 150th Birthday

The committee is planning a variety of activities for July 25 at 7 a.m. with a pancake and sausage breakfast hosted by the Atwood Fire Department, according to a press release. At 10 a.m. all the activities in the Prairie Township Park and Community Building will open.
There will be jump houses, antique tractor displays, antique cars, marshmallow golf, corn hole games and some really big new farm equipment and a fire department water ball contest. There also will be a hoola hoop contest and a magician.
There wil be a lot of pictures and items from the Centennial of 1965, several things from the former Atwood School, a paper showing how Atwood got its name and the restored Atwood Bank sign. There also will be an Amish bake sale by the Pleasantview School.
In addition to the homemade noodles there will be homemade cinnamon rolls, bread, whoopie pies, cookies and pies.
There will be slices of a variety of pies visitors can enjoy along with homemade ice cream made by the antique tractor displayers, Echoes of the Past. There also will be elephant ears, snow cones, hamburgers, hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches.
The July 25 events will come to a close with the launching of Chinese lanterns followed by a fireworks display.
On July 26 there will be a community church service in the big tent. Four Atwood churches, Aldersgate Methodist, Atwood Christian, New Beginnings and Otterbein Methodist, are preparing a service for all in attendance to enjoy.
The service will begin at 9 a.m. Following the church service there will be an old fashioned carry-in picnic. At 1 p.m. the Atwood Fire Department is planning a memorial service for two former firefighters, Frank Hoffer and Mike Blair, and all fallen firemen.
The committee will have tables and benches available but suggest people bring their lawn chairs.
