Atwood Lions Plan Fish Fry, Benefit Fundraiser

The fish fry will be Jan. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Atwood Community Building.
A friend of the Lions Club, Owens has been diagnosed with a second bout of cancer and is now having weekly treatments while maintaining his work and watching the medical bills continually on the rise. Owens and his wife Mary Lou are parents of twins in the second grade at Madison Elementary School.
Prior to this second round of cancer, Owens’ work schedule worked out that he would be finished at the time the children came home from school so he was able to be there with them until Mary Lou got home. He said he was getting quite good at homework help, according to the release from the Lions Club.
But his treatments are exhausting so he now comes home from work and goes right to bed, which means Mary Lou has cut her work hours back to be home with the children and care for Owens, according to the release. Regardless of hours worked by the couple, the medical bills are astronomical and this is where the Lions saw an opportunity to step in and work their motto, “We Serve,” the release states.
In addition to the fish fry, there will be a food drive and an Amish bake sale. This month they will bring their pies, whoopie pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls and other items and bags of noodles. The next two fish fries for Atwood will be March 11 and April 15.[[In-content Ad]]
