SYRACUSE – Asko “Whitey” Ruuska, 73, of Syracuse, died Sept. 20, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Haapajarvi, Finland, to Vaino and Hilja Jussila Ruuska. On Feb. 24, 1962, in Milwaukee, Wis., he married Dorothy “Dot” Elaine Johnson, who survives.

He owned and operated SISU Services, an aviation repair service, from 1985 until retiring in 2007. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran attaining the rank of E-5. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Middlebury.

Also surviving are a daughter, Laura (and spouse Luke) Snow, Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Eric (and spouse Elizabeth) Ruuska, Rensselaer; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Eero Ruuska, Cook, Minn. He was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Middlebury, with Pastor Randy Schroder officiating.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Sept. 29 at the church.

Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
