Arthur Samuel Walters, 93, died at 8:25 p.m. June 24, 2009, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, where he resided.

He was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Lyons Farms, N.J. (now Hillside, N.J.), to Vincent and Freda Spengler Walters. On April 22, 1939, he married Jean Harvey Tichenor, who died Dec. 20, 1977. On Oct. 6, 1985, he married Marta Skriver, who died in February 2001.

He worked at Simmons Co. for seven years then was a chief accountant, systems analyst and computer programmer at Air Reduction Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1976. He graduated from Hillside High School in 1933, and attended Rutgers University, Trenton, N.J. He was active in Boy Scouts and was a volunteer for Ocean County Hospice for several years. He served many years as deacon and elder in the churches he attended. He was a member of the Elizabeth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Newark, N.J.; Westfield Presbyterian Church, Westfield, N.J., and Community Reformed Church, Whiting, NJ.

Surviving are a son, Robert Arthur Walters, Springfield, Ohio; two daughters, Janice Mary (and spouse Joe) Burgos, North Manchester, and Susan Jean (and spouse Frank) Riha, Cedar Park, Texas; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

A memorial service is pending at McKee Mortuary.
