He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Pueblo, Colo., to William and Rose Ryan Bevan. He married Iona Patterson, who died Feb. 2, 1989.
He worked at Illinois Bell, AT&T and retired as a supervisor from Indiana Bell after 43 years in the telephone industry. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing as much as three to four times per week, and enjoyed bowling and softball as well. He was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He liked spending time outdoors and enjoyed fishing. He was devoted to his faith and was very active at the Christian Fellowship Church where he served as treasurer for several years. He had most recently been attending the Dewart Lake Community Friends Church. He proudly served his country during World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy (and spouse Clyde) Rector, Syracuse; a son, A.R. "Chip" Jr. (and spouse Geri) Bevan, Schererville; six grandchildren: Cindy Vining, Suzie Slocum and Missy Kirkham, all of Syracuse; Aaron Bevan, Hammond; Ashley Semier, Highland; and Todd Bevan, Schererville; and 10 great-grandchildren: Justin and Nathan Vining; Anthony and Dayna Gagliano; Taylor and Paige Slocum; Libby Kirkham; Aiden and Ellie Bevan; and Noah Semier. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Violet Scherer; and an infant brother.
Services will be at 2 p.m. (Central Time) Wednesday at Memory Lane Memorial Park, 6305 Lincoln Highway, Schererville, with the Rev. Donald Rector officiating.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. (Eastern Time) today at Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, and two hours prior to the service Wednesday at Memory Lane Memorial Park.
