COLUMBIA CITY - Arthur E. Loe, 74, Columbia City, died Aug. 13, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he was admitted July 31.

He was born Feb. 24, 1936, in Columbia City, to James E. and Sarah Jane Olive DeWitt Loe. On Sept. 29, 1961, he married Mary Lou Wolfe, who survives.

He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1954. In 1955 he moved to Larwill. He and his wife lived in Larwill until August 2003 when they moved to Columbia City. For the past 23 years, they spent their summers in Wisconsin. On Jan. 14, 1959, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged as a corporal Dec. 31, 1964. He retired from Dana Weatherhead with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of United States Bowling Congress, Huntington County Basketball Hall of Fame, formerly of the Columbia City Moose Lodge and of Fort Wayne Eagles 248.

Also surviving are four daughters: Christina Loe and Laura (and spouse Phil) Cameron, all of Larwill; Rochelle Boschet, Columbia City; Janice (and spouse David) Fry, Bullhead, Ariz.; a son, Bart (and spouse Erika) Loe, Warsaw; eight grandchildren; a brother, Jack Humphrey, Mishawaka; and three sisters: Catherine Sheets, Larwill; Patricia Ulrey, Warsaw; and Imogene Taylor, Huntington. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
