AKRON - Artena B. Hedington, 96, formerly of Tippecanoe, died at 12:19 p.m. March 18, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, where she resided.

She was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Tippecanoe, to Delbert and M. Leona Ritter Ralston. On April 11, 1931, in Warsaw, she married Noel L. Hedington, who died Jan. 8, 1996.

She was a lifetime resident of Tippecanoe before moving to Miller's Merry Manor in January 2005. She was a homemaker, a former custodian at Atwood School for 10 years and worked at Kralis Brothers Foods for 15 years, retiring in 1973. She enjoyed her family, flowers and gardening. She particularly loved hollyhocks.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Sparks, Etna Green, and Retha (and spouse Russell) Hart, Mentone; three sons: Delbert (and spouse Candace) Hedington, Etna Green; Donald (and spouse Betty) Hedington, Warsaw; and Jerry (and spouse Sandy) Hedington, Tippecanoe; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Ooley; a brother, Orville Ralston; a son-in-law, Wilford Sparks; a grandson, Jay Hedington; and one great-grandson, Gary Sparks.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Dale Hart officiating. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Cemetery.

Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
