The 113th Army Band is the second oldest Army Band in active duty. The band was formed on July 8, 1840 as the band, First Regiment of Dragoons, earning the band's official nickname,
"Dragoons". The band has earned 25 campaign participation credits, ranging from the Indian Wars in 1855 to the end of World War II. Another historical moment for the band was a performance in President Lincoln's second inaugural parade.
In 1940, the band was reorganized and designated as the band, First Armored Regiment. Disbanding in 1943, only to be reactivated 13 years later in 1956, the Dragoons were designated as the 113th Army Band. In 1970, the band consolidated with the 158th Army Band. Today, the Dragoons serve the United States Armor Center at Fort Knox, while participating in events throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.
The Dragoons are comprised of a ceremonial band, concert band, rock band, jazz ensemble, brass quintet, woodwind quintet, trombone quartet, and piano player.
