Armed Robbery Investigation Moves To LaGrange County
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Investigation into the Tuesday morning robbery of the Leesburg branch of National City Bank has moved north.
This morning, Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine said, "Basically, we moved a lot of the investigation up to LaGrange County."
He said the search moved there because of information received by the investigation team. The FBI has interviewed several people in LaGrange about the matter.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, the FBI and the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department are continuing to work on the matter. Rovenstine said they are receiving good information and are following that up. He said they hope to have the two suspects in custody soon.
Investigators are no longer looking for the pickup truck the two suspects fled in after burning the van they used in the robbery, he said. Also, despite other reports, Rovenstine said, there is no information that a woman was involved in the robbery. They are still looking for the two male suspects based on the composite sketch of one of the suspects.
Anyone with information about the robbery or suspects should contact the KCSD at 267-5667 or any law enforcement agency.
When the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department was contacted about any new information, a spokesman said they had no information and recommended the FBI be contacted. When the FBI was contacted regarding any additional information they might have, a spokesman there said all media are being referred to "the sheriff's department."
The robbery suspects allegedly entered the Leesburg bank, South Main Street, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and demanded that the manager cooperate. The two men were reportedly armed with military-style rifles and were wearing camouflage clothing. They fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and were driving a red mini van. That vehicle was later found burned in a wooded area along CR 800N, near CR 150W.
Officers throughout the county were attempting to locate the suspects' vehicle and, shortly after the robbery, Milford Town Marshal Dave Hobbs encountered the suspects and exchanged gunfire with them. Hobbs' police car was struck twice but he was not injured. [[In-content Ad]]
