ROCHESTER -ÊThree area wrestlers advanced from Saturday's fog-delayed regional competition, two from Warsaw and one from Wawasee.

Warsaw had a couple of runners-up in the Elvidge brothers, Matt (130 pounds) and Chris (135), while Wawasee had one second-place finish in Chase Davis at 103.

Matt Elvidge (130) wound up with second place after a hard-fought loss to Benji Dolly ofMishawaka.ÊPeriod one was scoreless, but in the second stanza Dolly scored a reversal and nearfall to take a 5-0 lead.ÊElvidge responded with an escape and then was awarded a penalty point in the third period.ÊDolly was nearly able to execute a "guillotine" but Elvidge managed to extricate himself.Twice the official declared a stalemate when it appeared that Elvidge was on the verge of a score, but the final score stood at 5-2.

Earlier in the day Elvidge was in the process of pinning Clint Miller of Penn, who fought back in an unacceptable manner and was disqualified for flagrant misconduct. Then Elvidge beat Jeremy Burnside of Clay 7-1.

Chris Elvidge (135) was edged 3-2 in the championship match by South Bend Washington's Matt Lyczynski.ÊElvidge reached the finals by pinning Clay's Billy Emmons in3:43, and then taking a 4-2 overtime win against Penn's Tom Ginter.

Coach Tony Boley ofWarsaw, heartened by the finish of the two Tiger runners-up, said, "One of our goals was to win the sectional, another was to get a few guys down to Conseco to place there.ÊThese two qualifiers give us a good chance to reach that goal as well."

Two of the Tigers took fourth place.ÊKent Nielsen (112), a freshman who came on strong as the season progressed, wound up in the consolation match against Penn's Chris Tanner.ÊElvidge was narrowly beaten 3-2 as a result of a reversal scored by Tanner with 20 seconds remaining in period one.

Another Tiger freshman, Andy Keener (145), lost to eventual champion Chris Prendergast of Bremen, 7-2.ÊIn consolation, Keener could not get past Plymouth's David Read, losing in a 7-0 blanking.

Other Warsaw wrestlers bowed out with round one losses: Johnny Mattson (103), Nick Missos (119), Bobby Derbyshire (152), Blake Deaton (160) and Joel Perry (189).ÊAll of Wawasee's entrants were eliminated, except for Chase Davis.

Wawasee's Chase Davis (103) is a promising freshman who took second place for his ticket to the semistate.ÊDavis, now 24-8, was blanked 6-0 in the finals by undefeated Nick Wiesjahn ofMishawaka. The path to the finals saw Davis beating Alek Schafer of LaVille 9-3, and Penn's Mike Genovese 5-4 in double overtime.Ê

Braxton Riley (215) wrestled and was eliminated in a round one loss, along with Jay Buyer (145) and Ryan Beer (160).ÊMeanwhile three of Wawasee's regional qualifiers did not compete.

Triton's two representatives also were taken out of the running with losses in the first round: Harold Lemler (215) and Chad Ulmer (171).ÊTippecanoeValley's lone regional competitor, junior Zach Sainer (140), also was ousted.

Warsaw will send two qualifiers, the Elvidge brothers, while Wawasee sends Chase Davis to compete in the individual regional at Merriville Saturday at 9 a.m.
