Area Teams At Goshen Relays

GOSHEN - Whitko and NorthWood each scored 86 points and tied for second place in the B division of the Goshen Relays Saturday.

Manchester also did well, finishing fifth out of 16 teams. In the A division, Warsaw scored 54 points to finish eighth out of 24 teams and Wawasee ended 22nd.

For the Wildcats, it was the best finish in school history. Tim Mason was the big winner for Whitko as he set a school and meet record in the long jump with a leap of 22-feet-11 1/4. He also won the 100 with a time of :10.88 and ran on the winning 400 relay team, along with Jimmy Linn, Josh Gonzalez and Aaron Engle, with a time of :45.06.

Bo Mullins took a first place for Whitko in the discus with a throw of 153-4.

NorthWood got a first place in the 1600 relay as Doug Brown, Todd Coffin, Jason Brenneman and Brad Greenlee ran a time of 3:33.86.

Nick Iden placed first in both hurdles events for the Squires. In the 110 hurdles, Iden ran a :15.11 and in the 300 hurdles, he ran a :39.70.

Warsaw took first place in two events. The 3200 relay team of Justin Rice, Greg Seiss, Jon Dock and David Hoffert ran an 8:01.93 and the 1600 relay team of Jose Esquivel, Seiss, Hoffert and Jon Hill ran a 3:27.2.

Whitko will host Manchester and Northfield Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while NorthWood will host Concord and Warsaw Tuesday at 5 p.m. Wawasee is at Goshen with Northridge Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Triton At Warrior Relays

At Denver, the Triton girls team tied for first out of four teams and the boys team placed third out of six Saturday.

In the girls meet, Triton placed first in three out of four events to tie for first.

On the boys side, Triton had just one first place finish but still racked up 57 points for third place.

Triton will host Glenn and Knox Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Girls: Warsaw, Wawasee Compete In Turtle Town Invitational

At Churubusco, Warsaw and Wawasee's girls track and field teams competed in Saturday's Turtle Town Invitational.

Angola won with 102 points. Wawasee finished third with 86 points, while Warsaw finished sixth out of nine teams with 65 points.

Wawasee competes at Plymouth at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Warsaw hosts Marion at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

At Mentone, Tippecanoe Valley swept a doubleheader Saturday.

In the first game, Valley scored five runs in the fourth to break a scoreless tie. Aaron Hart hit a grand slam in the inning and had five RBIs on the game. Mike Parker got the win and struck out four batters.

In game two, Valley scored in every inning, including eight in the fourth to rout the Cavaliers. Matt Bose had a three-run homer in the first inning and had six RBIs on the game. Orville Haney got the win for the Vikings.

Valley (3-7) will be at Caston today at 4:30 p.m.

Elkhart Memorial beat Wawasee 10-4 in the first game, but Wawasee came back and beat Heritage 8-7 in the second game. Brent Berkeypile homered in the first game for Wawasee. In the second game, Wawasee scored five runs in the first and three in the third.

Churubusco (4-6) beat Elkhart Memorial (4-9) 6-2 in the championship game.

At Wabash, Manchester's baseball team went 1-1 in Saturday's Wabash County Tournament.

Wabash drilled Manchester 15-3 in the Squires' first game, but they bounced back to edge Northfield 5-4 in the second game. Manchester's Derek Ring drove in two runs on a double.

Manchester, 6-6, is at Fort Wayne Wayne at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

At Culver, Culver Military scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win despite 14 errors.

Seth Mikel struck out eight batters, but took the loss. Cody New had three hits for the Vikings and Aaron Cox had a double.

At Wabash, Tippecanoe Valley's softball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Wabash.

Valley won the first game 5-3 behind the strong pitching by Sabrina Newsome. Newsome went the distance, allowing only three hits. Brandy Manns had three hits for Valley, including two doubles.

Wabash scored 13 runs in the third inning of the second game to drill Valley 16-1.

Valley, 2-5, hosts Pioneer at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

At North Manchester, the Squires softball team went 0-2 in their Saturday tournament.

They lost to Elmhurst 11-4 in the first game then lost to Eastbrook 3-2 in eight innings in the second game.

Manchester's Jamie Gillum and Jessica Hicks each had two hits in the loss to Elmhurst. Teammate Megan Sell went 2-for-3 in the loss to Eastbrook, a game coach Jim Troyer said had eight innings of Manchester's best softball of the year.

Manchester, 3-6, is at Maconaquah at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Bremen 16, Triton 0

At Bremen, Triton's softball team fell to 3-7 with a Friday loss to the Lions.

Bremen touched up Triton starter Melissa Claxon for 13 hits and 14 earned runs in four innings.

Triton's Liz Miller and Claxon each singled for Triton's only hits.

Triton, 1-2 in the Northern State Conference, is at North Miami at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

At Lafayette, Warsaw shot a 338 to finish sixth out of 15 teams Saturday in pouring rain.

Justin Howell shot a 78 to end one shot out of medalist honors.

At South Whitley, Whitko finished ahead of 12 other teams by shooting a 327 in winning the Whitko Invitational Saturday. Valley ended fifth with a 335, Wawasee was seventh with a 339 and Manchester was 10th with a 347.

Manchester's Ben Vineyard took medalist honors with a 76. Jon Nixon and Rob Wright both shot an 81 for Whitko and Andy Martin shot an 81 for Valley. Travis Coy shot an 84 for Wawasee.

Valley will host Culver Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and Wawasee will host Fairfield, Elkhart Central and West Noble today at 4:30 p.m. Whitko will host Wabash today at 4:30 p.m. Manchester will be at Huntington North Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

At Lakeville, NorthWood shot a 333 to beat two-time defending champion Wawasee by two strokes Saturday at the LaVille Freshman Sophomore Invitational.

Warsaw ended fourth with a 349, Valley ended 10th with a 377 and Triton finished 18th with a 416.

GOSHEN - Whitko and NorthWood each scored 86 points and tied for second place in the B division of the Goshen Relays Saturday.

Manchester also did well, finishing fifth out of 16 teams. In the A division, Warsaw scored 54 points to finish eighth out of 24 teams and Wawasee ended 22nd.

For the Wildcats, it was the best finish in school history. Tim Mason was the big winner for Whitko as he set a school and meet record in the long jump with a leap of 22-feet-11 1/4. He also won the 100 with a time of :10.88 and ran on the winning 400 relay team, along with Jimmy Linn, Josh Gonzalez and Aaron Engle, with a time of :45.06.

Bo Mullins took a first place for Whitko in the discus with a throw of 153-4.

NorthWood got a first place in the 1600 relay as Doug Brown, Todd Coffin, Jason Brenneman and Brad Greenlee ran a time of 3:33.86.

Nick Iden placed first in both hurdles events for the Squires. In the 110 hurdles, Iden ran a :15.11 and in the 300 hurdles, he ran a :39.70.

Warsaw took first place in two events. The 3200 relay team of Justin Rice, Greg Seiss, Jon Dock and David Hoffert ran an 8:01.93 and the 1600 relay team of Jose Esquivel, Seiss, Hoffert and Jon Hill ran a 3:27.2.

Whitko will host Manchester and Northfield Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while NorthWood will host Concord and Warsaw Tuesday at 5 p.m. Wawasee is at Goshen with Northridge Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Triton At Warrior Relays

At Denver, the Triton girls team tied for first out of four teams and the boys team placed third out of six Saturday.

In the girls meet, Triton placed first in three out of four events to tie for first.

On the boys side, Triton had just one first place finish but still racked up 57 points for third place.

In the first game, Valley scored five runs in the fourth to break a scoreless tie. Aaron Hart hit a grand slam in the inning and had five RBIs on the game. Mike Parker got the win and struck out four batters.

In game two, Valley scored in every inning, including eight in the fourth to rout the Cavaliers. Matt Bose had a three-run homer in the first inning and had six RBIs on the game. Orville Haney got the win for the Vikings.

At North Manchester, the Squires softball team went 0-2 in their Saturday tournament.

They lost to Elmhurst 11-4 in the first game then lost to Eastbrook 3-2 in eight innings in the second game.

Manchester's Jamie Gillum and Jessica Hicks each had two hits in the loss to Elmhurst. Teammate Megan Sell went 2-for-3 in the loss to Eastbrook, a game coach Jim Troyer said had eight innings of Manchester's best softball of the year.

Manchester, 3-6, is at Maconaquah at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Bremen 16, Triton 0

At Bremen, Triton's softball team fell to 3-7 with a Friday loss to the Lions.

Bremen touched up Triton starter Melissa Claxon for 13 hits and 14 earned runs in four innings.

Triton's Liz Miller and Claxon each singled for Triton's only hits.

Triton, 1-2 in the Northern State Conference, is at North Miami at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

At South Whitley, Whitko finished ahead of 12 other teams by shooting a 327 in winning the Whitko Invitational Saturday. Valley ended fifth with a 335, Wawasee was seventh with a 339 and Manchester was 10th with a 347.

Manchester's Ben Vineyard took medalist honors with a 76. Jon Nixon and Rob Wright both shot an 81 for Whitko and Andy Martin shot an 81 for Valley. Travis Coy shot an 84 for Wawasee.

Valley will host Culver Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and Wawasee will host Fairfield, Elkhart Central and West Noble today at 4:30 p.m. Whitko will host Wabash today at 4:30 p.m. Manchester will be at Huntington North Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Warsaw Second At LaPorte Tournament

At LaPorte, Warsaw beat Mishawaka 3-2 in the first round Saturday before losing to LaPorte 3-1 in the championship.

Aynsley Small and Krista Coppes both won singles matches against Mishawaka, and Kim Paczkowski and Brooke Westover won a doubles match.

Against LaPorte, Abbie Simmons and Kara Kesler picked up the only win at No. 2 doubles.
