Area Swimmers Advance To Sectional Finals

In all, six swimmers from Warsaw, two from Tippecanoe Valley and one from Manchester advanced to Saturday’s finals.
Brenna Morgan led the way for the Lady Tigers, qualifying first in the 50-yard and 10-yard freestyle races. Erin Sandberg finished third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly.
Jessica Haines was fourth in the 500 freestyle, and Savannah Taylor was fifth in the same event and seventh in the 200 individual medley.
Laurel Moeller advanced with a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Lauren Kuhl was eighth in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Warsaw advanced three relay teams as well. The 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams each finished second, and the 400 freestyle team was fourth.
Valley’s Katie Gunter advanced with a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly, and Lea Stouder did likewise with an eighth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.
Manchester’s Claire Barnett qualified in two events, finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 50 freestyle. The 200 medley relay team also advanced with an eighth place finish.
The sectional finals will begin with diving at 9 a.m and swimming events starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Seven Wawasee Lady Warrior swimmers qualified for the sectional finals in two events each at the preliminary held at Northridge.
Breanna Robinson finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and second in the 100 backstroke. Paige Miller was first in the 200 individual medley and second in the 500 freestyle.
Shelby Adams qualified fourth in the 100 breaststroke, and fifth in the 200 freestyle. Kendra Miller advanced with a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle and a sixth in the 50 freestyle. Kayla Hershberger was fifth in the 100 backstroke and sixth in the 100 freestyle.
Mikala Mawhorter advanced with a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle and an eighth in the 100 butterfly. Anna Park finished seventh in the 500 free and eighth in the 200 IM.
The Lady Warriors also advanced three relay teams to the finals. The 400 freestyle relay team qualified first, the 200 freestyle relay second, and the 200 medley relay seventh.

Anne Secrest had a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds in Tippecanoe Valley’s 50-42 win at Culver Academies. Secrest added seven steals and three blocks in the contest.
Meredith Brouyette had 11 points and Caylie Teel eight in the Lady Vikings’ win.
Valley was behind by five after the first quarter before leading by two at halftime. The Lady Vikings outscored the Eagles 10-5 in the final period to secure the victory.
The Lady Vikings finish the regular season 19-2 and open the Wawasee Sectional against Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Syracuse
