PIERCETON - Monday morning's armed robbery of a Pierceton bank remains under investigation by local police.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, a man entered the Pierceton branch of Lake City Bank shortly after 10:30 a.m., displayed a silver handgun and demanded money.

The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, dropping a bundle of the stolen money at the door.

A teller told police that she followed the suspect outside and saw him run behind an antique store east of the main entrance to the bank.

A K-9 search of the area ended behind the antique store, where a set of tire tracks began. Police believe that the suspect got into a vehicle at that location and left the area. An older green pickup believed related to this and other recent area robberies was reportedly seen south of Pierceton, near South Whitley, shortly after the robbery took place. An attempt by South Whitley police to stop the vehicle was avoided when the suspect turned down a crossroad before police could turn and get in place to make the traffic stop.

Police said that a green pickup was reportedly seen in the area of a recent South Whitley liquor store robbery and that both these robberies and a robbery in Huntington could be related. Various area police agencies are working together exchanging information on the robberies to determine if the same suspect is responsible.

Pictures taken from a security camera at the Pierceton LCB match descriptions given by witnesses to Monday's bank robbery.

The suspect is described as a white middle-aged male with black or brown salt-and-pepper shoulder-length wavy hair; 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall; having a husky build; and weighing between 170 and 200 pounds.

At the time of the robbery the suspect was wearing blue coveralls, a red or blue bandanna, a white baseball cap with an orange logo and gloves.

Also at the scene were officers from Pierceton and Winona Lake police departments and Indiana State Police.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at 267-5667 or Crime Stoppers at 800-342-STOP. [[In-content Ad]]
