After months of gathering input, KovertHawkins Architects, Jeffersonville, is ready to present building options with estimated costs for Warsaw Schools.

Warsaw Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth said KovertHawkins will show the school board options and estimated costs at a special school board meeting Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. at the central administration building. Then on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Lakeview Middle School auditorium, KovertHawkins will present the options and costs to the public in a community meeting.

Haworth said the Jan. 15 meeting will not be the only meeting for the public to "help frame a possible building project."

In February, KovertHawkins will be taking the options and public discussion to various school buildings in the district. School board member Tammy Dalton said one of the meetings really needed to be at Leesburg Elementary School. Haworth said that is one of the schools that is being considered. Dates and times for the meetings in February are still being scheduled.

Currently, there is no scope or plans for a project. At the end of the 2003-04 school year, Atwood, Silver Lake and Claypool elementary schools were closed. Since then, students at those schools have been transported to other schools, helping to cause overcrowding. The school board has since said Claypool will be reopened, but also are considering renovating and expanding Claypool and building at least one new elementary school. But no decision has been voted on.

Five architects firms were considered with the Warsaw School Board selecting KovertHawkins in August this year. Since being selected, KovertHawkins has held public meetings and meetings with school faculty, staff and administration to see what the building needs of all Warsaw schools is. The options step is the third step in a series of steps KovertHawkins is taking to assist Warsaw with its building needs.

The regular school board meeting will be Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the central administration building. [[In-content Ad]]
