Four remaining child molesting cases against Anthony J. Demarco, 27, of Mentone were dismissed Friday by Kosciusko County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Daniel H. Hampton.
"The prosecutor's office is always in contact with the victims," said Hampton. "As the trials got rescheduled, we started talking about the next step. ...
"You have to look at the plusses and minuses. A lot of (the victims) were young teenagers when this started. Now most have of them have turned into young adults and going through the healing process."
Demarco was convicted of four counts of child molesting in February 2006.
The former YMCA employee and Mentone and Silver Lake reserve officer was sentenced to 120 years.
In January of this year, that sentenced was reduced to 60 years by the Indiana State Court of Appeals.
Demarco currently is serving his sentence at an Indiana State Prison.
Demarco could be released as early as March 18, 2035.
Demarco's mother, Jennifer Layne, will not face obstruction of justice charges.
An obstruction charge was filed after Layne called a witness in the first case and threatened him.
After the charge was filed, Layne made no further contact with the witness, Hampton said.[[In-content Ad]]
