Another Year, Another Loss To Northridge

MENTONE - The Northridge Raiders do not know how to treat their hosts.

One year ago Northridge went to Valley and beat the Vikings 17-0 in the sectional. One year later, Northridge traveled to Valley again, this time for Friday's sectional game. Like last year, Northridge beat the Vikings at Death Valley, this time 13-12.

With Tippecanoe Valley starting quarterback Brandon Eaton at home recuperating from mono, Friday's sectional football game against Northridge rested in the hands of junior Craig Kuhn.

But Kuhn threw four interceptions in Valley's loss.

Good football teams put all three phases of the game - offense, defense and special teams - together.

The Vikings got the good defense.

The offense was a different story.

When it was time for the offense and special teams to come through, they failed.

Tippecanoe Valley is a prime example of how the littIe things add up to determine who wins or loses in a football game. From short yardage to extra points, everything contributes.

The Vikings scored two touchdowns. They missed kicks after both of them.

"It was the missed extra points that killed us," Tippecanoe Valley coach Scott Bibler said.

In a game of few yards offensively, the Vikings missed out on many chances.

The Raiders scored all 13 of their points in the first half. Their defense held the Vikings to zero.

But the second half was comeback time for the Vikings. In the third quarter, Tippecanoe Valley scored all 12 of its points on two touchdowns.

When it came time for the extra points, the Vikings were full of flaws.

The first attempt for an extra point failed due to a high snap. By the time the ball was down, it was too late, and the kick was blocked by Ben Stoffel of the Raiders.

Bibler decided to go for the tie after the second touchdown instead of the two-point conversion to take the lead.

The second mistake was almost identical to the first. Stoffel was not touched as he came through the line and blocked his second extra point.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back for the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings. They had no more chances to score, and the game was over.

"The result of the game was close, and these men showed lots of heart tonight the whole game, and they didn't give up," Bibler said.
