MILFORD - During August's Milford Town Council meeting, an annexation request was made by Fred Ramser of LMA Development LLC.

The 32-acre parcel proposed for annexation is located between the Lippert building and the Royal Crown property, on Old 15. The land currently is zoned I-2 for industrial use.

In order to begin the annexation process, the town had to publish a notice of petition 20 days before an announced public hearing. Such notice was published immediately following the last meeting, and Monday's meeting was the public hearing.

Town attorney Jay Rigdon presented the council with the fiscal plan document for the annexation. The public was given the opportunity to provide input.

"At next month's meeting, you'll be able to pass ... an ordinance that will approve annexation," Rigdon said. "Because this is private land, 100 percent owned by the petitioner, after the ordinance is passed in October, then when a 60-day period expires from that date, the ordinance is recorded and it becomes in full force and effect.

"You will want to get it into effect before next year, or you'll have to wait another year. We're on target to do that."

The town is required to have the fiscal plan in order to assess any impact the annexation will have. There are meetings between Milford officials and the owners of LMA Development to discuss specifics such as utilities, drainage, right of way, etc. The council approved acceptance of the fiscal plan for the annexation of LMA's property as presented.

It was announced Milford police officer Richard Wolfe resigned from the department.

It was also stated the police have received requests regarding identity theft. Some area residents have received phone calls asking for information such as Social Security numbers and other private information. It was emphasized that such information should never be shared over the phone.

The Milford police department also will be sending at least one officer and one patrol car to participate in a 9/11 remembrance ceremony in Warsaw.

Utilities Superintendent Dallas Winchester announced that fall clean-up is scheduled for Sept. 25-27. Area residents can bring items to the Street Department, 600 N. Main St. Hours Thursday and Friday are 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. until noon. No appliance with freon will be accepted; nothing wet such as paint, varnish, etc.; and tires must be separated from the rims.

Leaf pick-up will follow the fall clean-up, even though it is early in the season. Leaves must be either bagged or in some other type of container.

In other business, the council:

n Approved the street department's request to obtain quotes for the construction of a new salt bin. The department wants to replace the old wooden structure with a concrete bin.

n Approved the replacement of a non-operational fire hydrant at the corner of West and Catherine streets. Cost for hydrant and valve is not to exceed $3,500.

n The Milford Fire Department's annual chicken barbecue is Oct. 5. Tickets are available from any fireman.

n The park will close Sept. 20.

n Approved the accounts payable voucher register as presented.

Milford town council members are Gary Hurd, Robert Cockburn and Douglas Ruch.
